Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives in the chemical factory explosion at Sigachi Pharma in Telangana’s Sangareddy district, which left eight people dead and 26 injured.
Extending support to the affected families, PM Modi announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh for the next of kin of each deceased and ₹50,000 for each of the injured, to be provided from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
In a post on social media platform X, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) stated: “Anguished by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy at a factory in Sangareddy, Telangana. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon. An ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from PMNRF would be given to the next of kin of each deceased. The injured would be given ₹50,000: PM @narendramodi.”
The explosion occurred between 8:15 and 9:35 am in the Pasamailaram Phase 1 area. According to Inspector General V Satyanarayana, the police were alerted within 10 minutes, and rescue teams, including NDRF, SDF, and 10 fire engines, responded promptly.
“A total of 8 deaths and 26 injuries have been reported so far, with two or three individuals in critical condition. Around 90 workers were present in the blast zone out of 150 on shift,” Satyanarayana said.
Firefighting and rescue operations are ongoing, and the cause of the explosion is under investigation. The government has assured continued medical support for the injured.
